Mean Lean Golfer-Eating Machine

The Stadium Course giveth and the Stadium Course taketh away. For a tournament that would like to be touted as the fifth major, the leaderboard scores were pretty good. Birdie and eagle opportunities were plentiful this week. Unfortunately, heavy doses of bogeys and worse abounded as well. The course chewed up top names and little guys with no discrimination. Even Stephen Ames, the runaway winner, had a double bogey this week.

Golfer to watch this week: Retief Goosen was one of the few golfers who carded nothing worse than a bogey on any hole on his way to solo second. For his consistency, he was rewarded with a gain on Vijay Singh in the Official World Golf Rankings and is now listed in Tier II. He is the highest ranked player in the BellSouth Classic.
